I'm an
American living in the Philippines and I'm not special in any way. I have many reasons for living here and
some of them are nobody's business but my own. I've been
living here since April of 2006 and while I have no intention of moving
back to the United States, nothing is set in stone. I have family in both the United States and the
Philippines and one day, it may make sense to return (permanently, that
is, because I do visit once in awhile). As you browse through the pages of this
website, you'll find that I write about the Philippines from an American
perspective - but only when I write about the Philippines. I enjoy writing about the things people want
to read and that's my only real motivation. The money I make from this
website is money I don't get to keep anyway, but the website pays for
itself and then some.Untwisted
VortexThis website started as my first attempt at creating and
maintaining a permanent presence on the worldwide web. It obviously wasn't the start of my
Internet experience - I've been on the net in one way or another since
the Internet became a commercial entity in the 1990s.The original idea, when I
started it on the 27th of May in 2006 (my welcome message), was to use
it as a journal of what I experienced after moving to and living in the
Philippines. In 2007, I
changed tactics and stopped writing about things that were only personal
in nature. In 2008, I started
narrowing in on specific subjects a bit more as I learned it was the
kind of content that people were most interested in reading. When * I * write about anything on the blog, I try to relate
it to a personal experience of some kind or some specific knowledge I
possess. I'm not always successful in that regard, but I
enjoy the attempt. Of course, that does not apply to any byline
but my own or any article I'm posting for someone else (as noted in the
article). If you would like personal information about me and the other
places I exist on the web, please visit my somewhat of a vanity domain
for my name of RT Cunningham as RTCX.NET. It's
always a work in progress, and it's where I plan to add subdomains as
separate websites as I write about the projects I'm working on.I have made many online friends (some with their own websites but
many without) since starting this website and I hope to make many more.American Geekery in the
PhilippinesIs "geekery" even a word? Oh well, I guess it is now. Regardless, I'm
probably best characterized as a computer geek. I prefer to spend my time sitting in a chair in front of a
computer keyboard. I'm not, however, inclined to be social online. I
prefer reading, writing and programming, but not conversing. Idle chit-chat and participating in social
networking eats time like nothing else.I'm not happy unless I'm always
busy doing something productive, even if I'm always behind on a project
or two. As you can gather by viewing various articles, I'm dangerous in
that I know a little about quite a few things, including making money
online, but not a lot about any specific thing. While I enjoy programming on a daily
basis, even if it's a simple script, I enjoy a whole lot more. Every
article I write presumes that you, or someone you know, will enjoy at
least a little of what I tend to write about.
